Market Capitalisation
Total dollar value of a company's outstanding shares.
Market cap = Share Price × Shares Outstanding. It measures the equity value the market currently assigns to the firm.
Conventional buckets: large-cap > $10B, mid-cap $2B–$10B, small-cap $300M–$2B, micro-cap < $300M. Index inclusions (S&P 500, Russell 2000) often gate on market-cap thresholds.
Market cap differs from enterprise value, which adds debt and subtracts cash. EV is a better proxy for the cost of acquiring the entire business.
